Bag maintenance tips

Caring for Designer Bags Properly
Before you use your new handbag for the first time and during everyday use, there are a few things you should definitely pay attention to so that you can enjoy your new favorite accessory for as long as possible.

We've rounded up the top bag care tips and tricks for you here.
most important steps

Impregnation Spray Prevention
We recommend that you dip each bag. This allows you to optimally protect them from rain and moisture so that they don't leave unsightly stains. Good quality impregnation sprays are available at affordable prices. It's important to reapply about every six weeks so the effects don't lose their potency over time. The following applies: less is more! Excessive care can permanently damage the leather. So it's better to spray less, but more.

By the way, did you know that moisture can also build up in plastic bags? For optimal storage of your handbag it is always best to use the provided dust bag. Additionally, your bag should not be exposed to extreme light or heat sources, including sunlight, and should be protected from chafing and friction.

cleaning bag
If your handbag gets wet and forms water spots, keep it away from UV rays and heat. UV rays can cause leather to fade and affect quality, and heat can cause leather to break or deform. Leather bags filled with lots of paper dry best in the fresh air.

If you have a stain on your designer bag, first things first: don't panic! Most of the time, there is an easy way to remove it safely. Try removing the stain with a special sponge or leather eraser first to keep the bag as protected as possible. Just be sure to test the cleaning tool on an inconspicuous spot beforehand to make sure it will fit in your handbag as well.

BTW: Never use nail polish remover when cleaning the bag! Using such an aggressive agent will only add unnecessary damage and may permanently damage the leather.

Care of different types of leather
Every handbag is different and every leather has its own special requirements. Therefore, it is logical that each piece of leather requires individual care. Here you can see the best tips at a glance.
keep smooth leather
Smooth leather refers to all types of leather with the grain side treated outwards. There are countless varieties of smooth leather; on some, the natural grain structure is still visible, while others are just smooth.

The best way to protect and maintain a handbag made of smooth leather is to use a special leather cream - this keeps the leather supple for longer and protects the handbag from fading with a UV filter. Alternatively, you can use a mild cleansing foam to protect the leather and keep it soft - similar to milk.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Never apply too much! Too much can cause unsightly stains as the leather can no longer absorb the care solution. The cream might even stain your clothes.

Care for Suede
Suede is a leather with a buffed surface for a velvety texture and a warm, comfortable feel. These include suede, suede and nubuck. Suede is particularly sensitive and requires special, sensitive care. Therefore, use products designed for suede, such as foams, sprays or special cleaners. We also recommend buffing the leather regularly with a suede brush or suede sponge to avoid smooth spots. Dipping should also be taken as a matter of course every six weeks.

Smaller stains and light stains that are common on UGG boots can be easily brushed away. A special eraser for nubuck or suede will help remove large stains. The absolute no-no for suede cleaning is water! Do not clean suede with soap and water - this will only aggravate the stain.

Maintenance of patent leather
Patent leather is a high-gloss, grain-free leather that has been varnished or covered with a glossy, mirror-smooth foil. The leather is thus optimally protected. So, when it comes to care, patent leather totes are probably the most frugal of all bags. You can safely use milk, cream, fat or similar products. We recommend using a damp (microfiber) cloth to clean stains.

However, care should be taken when storing it, as patent leather scratches easily and can absorb foreign dyes. To keep your patent leather bag from fading, you should make sure that it does not come into contact with other handbags for a long time.

Maintenance Canvas
While canvas bags are not in the leather category, they should be treated with the same care. The material made of pure cotton fabric is actually very strong, but there is always the possibility of getting dirty or splashed. Therefore, we also recommend regular use of tarpaulins.

If an uncoated canvas bag becomes stained, traditional home remedies are usually sufficient; a damp sponge and mild soap are sufficient to successfully remove the stain.

TIP: If you are looking for a more durable handbag, be sure to buy a PU coated canvas bag. Not only waterproof, but also extremely dirt-resistant!

Caring for Artificial Leather
Artificial leather is not just artificial leather: depending on the type and composition, special care is always required. A distinction can be made between polyurethane, vinyl and microfiber materials with a suede look. Polyurethane is waterproof but has pores through which water can penetrate. Vinyl, on the other hand, is completely impervious to water.

For suede-like microfiber materials, the amount of water used should be very minimal as it will penetrate the material and damage the underlying layers. In worst cases, it can even lead to mold growth.

For all types of artificial leather we also recommend regular impregnation with a suitable spray and care foam followed by application with a polishing cloth. Light dirt can be removed in no time with a cleaning brush and a mild faux leather cleaner.
